Felipe Sancho y Alicia Muñoz, Becas Arquia en Nueva York: Diller Scofidio + Renfro

Felipe Sancho Cervera y Alicia Muñoz Falder fueron galardonados con la Beca Arquia en las convocatorias de 2020 y 2021 respectivamente, convirtiéndose en los primeros becados en aventurarse a ‘cruzar el charco’ para tener una experiencia profesional en el estudio de Diller Scofidio + Renfro en Nueva York, Estados Unidos.

Asistidos por Fundación Arquia y Architect-US, el zaragozano y la malagueña comienzan a reflejar su testimonio en el blog de Architect-US, cuyo inicio ha estado marcado por la pandemia del COVID-19, que finalmente no ha impedido ni que ambos arranquen con ilusión su trabajo en el estudio de diseño interdisciplinar que integra arquitectura, artes visuales y artes escénicas, ni que comiencen a sentirse ciudadanos de la Gran Manzana.

«One random day there was a mail in my inbox that shocked me. Diller Scofidio + Renfro were interested in my profile and wanted to interview me! After the nerves, the interview, and almost two months the big news arrived, I was selected for the fellowship to work at DS+R!» ¹

 

«As the days pass I feel I’m becoming more a New Yorker. Even if I’m always saying to my friends and family that it may sound like a cliché (I guess) but I have never had the feeling of being a stranger in New York. This city has so many things, ambiences, places, people, foods… that you can always find your place in it!» ²

It is an event that takes place almost every day and always in the same theater (…) after seeing it in my smartphone screen so many times… I had the opportunity to… be part of the audience of… The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!» ³

«My expectations from this adventure are to learn, to grow-up personally and professionally, to experiment, to be part of an international network and for sure to leave my comfort zone. Of course it is a bit frightening but also really challenging! I choose New York as it is one of the worldwide centers of innovation, development and culture. On top of that, the studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro was one of the main references during my studies. It is an honor to be part of their team for one year.» ⁴
